About the role
Create performances that work at the speed of player input. A guardian's warning, a knight's turn and a companion's playful interruption each need a distinct rhythm, while still belonging to one character. Balance strong posing with the practical demands of transitions, interruptions and camera distance. Collaborate with designers and gameplay developers to test motion in context. This role focuses on animation and its integration; it is separate from sculpting a character or implementing the underlying movement system.
What you will do
- Animate locomotion, actions and reactions with clear silhouettes, believable weight and purposeful timing.
- Develop anticipation, contact and recovery phases that help players read an action without making controls feel delayed.
- Build and review transitions, blends and interruptions alongside the gameplay team.
- Use reference and repeated in-engine tests to identify sliding, popping and unclear movement at actual play speed.
- Maintain organised animation files and communicate event, rig and integration requirements before handoff.
What you will bring
- A gameplay animation reel that demonstrates acting choices, locomotion and action timing rather than only cinematic shots.
- Strong command of posing, spacing, weight and the relationship between preparation and impact.
- Experience working with game rigs, animation graphs or comparable real-time integration workflows.
- The ability to explain an iteration in terms of player readability, responsiveness and character consistency.
What to include in your portfolio
Show a short sequence at normal speed, then include a slower breakdown of one action and its transitions. Explain the intended feeling, the rig or motion sources you used and how feedback changed the timing. Clearly distinguish your animation from supplied assets.
